Die zweite Tafel / Second tablet

Gilgamesch wehrt alle Warnungen ab
Gilgamesch und Enkidu wollen nun Abenteuer erleben. Gilgamesch plant,
Zedernholz zum Bau einer großen Tempeltür zu besorgen. Aber dafür muss
Humbaba, der Wächter des Zedernwaldes, getötet werden. Er gilt als
unüberwindlicher Riese, dem keiner gewachsen ist. Gilgamesch will den
widerstrebenden Enkidu überreden. Alle, auch die Ältesten des Volkes, versuchen,
ihn von dem Plan abzubringen, Humbaba zu töten (II, 216-240, 260-299).

Gilgamesh refuses all warnings
Gilgamesch and Enkidu now want to have adventures. Gilgamesh is planning to get cedars
to build a large temple door. But therefore Humbaba, the guardian of the cedar
forest, must be killed. He is regarded as an invincible giant that no one can overwhelm.
Gilgamesh tries to persuade the reluctant Enkidu. Everyone, even the elders of the
people, try to dissuade Gilgamesh from his plan to kill Humbaba.
