Die fünfte Tafel / Fifth tablet

Die Tempeltür aus Zedernholz auf dem Floß
Aus den höchsten Zedern fertigen Gilgamesch und Enkidu eine große Tempeltür,
die sie dem Götterkönig Enlil weihen wollen, um den Tod Humbabas zu sühnen.
Sie bauen ein Floß, auf dem sie die Tür nach Uruk treiben lassen (V, 291-304).

The palace door of cedar on the raft
Gilgamesh and Enkidu produce a large temple door, made from the highest cedars.
They want to present it to the King of Gods, Enlil, to atone for the death of Humbaba.
They build a raft on which they transport the door to Uruk.
